Design and production

Nike‘s annual launch of their football kits and products is, to say the least, a huge event. Each year’s kits, boots, balls and gloves are snapped up in the hundreds-of-thousands by eager fans showing their true colors and allegiances. The press launch of the 2005/2006 kits and gear fell to the good folk at  Oy Communications and the final package was pure class.

A bespoke, compact case with a flip-down lid – with embossed Nike Football logo on the front – housed the 15 individual club and product info-packs found inside. The packs were contained in a wrap-around sleeve adorned with only the iconic club crest on a rich-black background. Once opened, the pack highlighted the kit with photos and feature call-outs alongside technical product information and an informative history of the particular club. The pack also held a dvd with press information and high-res photos. Working alongside our account manager, with tight input from Nike while using their visuals from that season’s line, we crafted our booklets to follow the rich, luscious feel of the photography supplied. Needless to say, Nike were very happy.

In the end, we managed a high-quality product that looked the business and also imparted its information clearly and efficiently, which is the bottom line in graphic design. Teams as historic as Barcelona, Arsenal, Celtic, Juventus and Paris St. Germain were well represented. And apparently the kits were a big hit at the official release and have since become highly collectible.
